it's for people that post a thread response to hide pertinent info on the topic being discussed. Say for instance "Mary was sleeping with Dave" if that happens to spoil the plot in the storyline you can hide it so people don't unknowingly read the thread and ruin the experience of the book. people that have read the book, or are like me and have to know, can click on the spoiler button and read your response.
